At least it&#8217;s a nice thing at this time of year when the sun doesn&#8217;t rise too early, and the dawn chorus still starts at a reasonable hour!<\/p>\n<p align=center><a href=\"https:\/\/coffeehouse.co.nz\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wayeye.jpg\"><img src=\"https:\/\/coffeehouse.co.nz\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/wayeye.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"wax-eye\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This time for some reason there seemed to be a few more varieties of birds around, or maybe I just had more time to stare out the window or to go out and track them down. I can state definitively that while we were there I managed to spot:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A huge number of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wax-eye\">Wax-eye\/Silver-eyes<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Many <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/European_Greenfinch\">European Greenfinch<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A family or two of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tui_%28bird%29\">Tui<\/a>, including a couple that were quite happy to come close and display themselves to me<\/li>\n<li>The usual complement of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Common_Blackbird\">Blackbirds<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A couple of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Zealand_Fantail\">fantails<\/a>, including a black fantail that I didn&#8217;t even know existed. These were just way to fast in the dim light of the dawn\/dusk bush to even get close to a photo of<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/House_Sparrow\">House Sparrows<\/a>, of course<\/li>\n<li>Noisy <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Zealand_Bellbird\">Bellbirds<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A few <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doves\">Doves<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Some <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/European_Starling\">starlings<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chaffinch\">Chaffinch<\/a> or two (not as many as last time though)<\/li>\n<li>A couple of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Zealand_Pigeon\">Wood Pigeons<\/a> (I think it was two different ones, not the same one twice)<\/li>\n<li>Oh, and 3 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chickens\">chickens<\/a>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Apparently I missed out on at least the Brown Creeper, Grey Warbler and the Song Thrush, but that only gives me something to track down next time! And there&#8217;s still a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_birds_of_New_Zealand\">large number of other birds<\/a> to track down elsewhere too.
