Home Made Tortillas…
Something a bit different for tea the other night. Filled wraps for dinner. Actually, filled wraps are quite usual here, but using home “baked” tortillas instead of the store bought ones (which we didn’t have) was new.
They were pretty easy to make, and tasted pretty yummy too. Not bad for just flour, water and salt, with a bit of time and muscle power. I haven’t really got the knack of making them round yet though. But who needs perfectly round anyway!
Now I’ll always be wondering whether to use home made or purchased ones whenever we need any…
At least you have the option of buying them…. send me the recipe so I can give them a try!
Here’s the recipe:
Tortilla Bread
Author: Daniel Stevens in the Metro paper the other week.
Categories: Bread
Makes: 8
150 mls water
250 grams plain white four
5 grams salt
Mix all together. Knead until smooth and then cover. Rest for about 30 minutes (it relaxes the gluten).
Divide into eight. Shape them into rounds (balls) and then roll each to a 2-3mm thickness. Place a frying pan on medium heat. When hot, cook for half a minute until brown patches appear, then turn over.
Repeat with the next one.
Wrap them together in a tea towel to hold steam.
Pretty simple really!
Oh my god what a mission!! I must want to make a comment VERY badly!!!
Finally got a password!
Anyway… great looking tortillas, but well done you on giving up the smoking! I am really proud of you.
